Issue: The continuation of essential services like postal during lockdown.

Grievance
Ms. Reethu Ranganathan is a resident of Bengaluru, Karnataka. Greeting the Honourable Prime
Minister, she appreciated him and his team for taking fantastic initiatives towards flattening the curve of
the Corona virus pandemic but expressed her disappointment with the postal service, which is an
essential service provided by the government, in her area. Being a teacher, she had enrolled herself with
the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to pursue a Masters Course in English and was
expecting the package containing study materials to take her education process ahead.

She was notified by the local Yelahanka post office that the package had arrived and could be collected
from the Post Office. Since, she was entitled to on-the-door delivery, she requested the postman to
deliver it to her, which was refused by the delivery man (his details were shared) stating that his health
was as important as hers and asked her to reach the post office , which is about 6 kms from her
residence, to pick up her package.

She was very unhappy with the way the personnel spoke to her, asking her if she would take care of him
in case he was affected with the virus. Her issue was not only about going to the post office or the way
he spoke but it was impractical too. Movement of general public (unless an emergency) was restricted
whereas delivery of essential services (including postal services) was permitted during the lockdown
because of the pandemic.

She herself being a teacher, had been teaching children online, she expected same diligence, from other
professionals/ service providers, to carry out their duties. While appreciating the Prime Minister for
sleepless efforts to keep the country safe and intact, she assured, her support for all the initiatives that
