Impact/Benefits of RCS-UDAN

Between April 2018 and March 2020, RCS-UDAN has received excellent response from airline
operators, State/UT Governments and other stakeholders.

1. UDAN is a unique scheme wherein the impact is not limited to any region but is spread
       across the country. The average load factor on the regional routes is above 70%, indicating
       the extent of latent demand which is being served.

2. During this period, work has been initiated to provide scheduled connectivity to 23 unserved
       /underserved airports and 10 water aerodromes.

3. More than 335 unconnected routes have been awarded.

4. 218 routes have been operationalized.

5. Over four million passengers have availed the benefits of the Scheme as of the end of March
       2020.

6. The Scheme has provided a much-needed platform to the regional carriers to scale up their
       operations.

7. As per an ICAO study - Economic benefits of civil aviation, ripples of prosperity, the output
       and employment multipliers of aviation are 3.25 and 6.10 respectively. Enhancing regional
       air connectivity has created a strong impact on the economy as explained below:

       a. Direct Effect: Employment generated by airlines and airport operations, enhancement
              of air cargo, aircraft maintenance, air traffic management, activities such as baggage
              handling and ground-handling services, etc.
